cranberry sauce

  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 Measuring cups
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Zester or grater for the orange zest
  • 1 Serving dish

Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries About 3 cups.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Optional.

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or damaged cranberries.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, granulated sugar, orange juice, orange zest, and cinnamon (if using).
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens. Continue to stir occasionally.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool completely at room temperature. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Once cooled, transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving dish and store it in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve.

Notes

This cranberry sauce can be made up to a week in advance, making it perfect for holiday preparations.
You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar, depending on your taste preference.
For a twist, consider adding chopped nuts or a splash of your favorite liquor.
