- 12 oz fresh cranberries About 3 cups.
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup orange juice
- zest of 1 orange
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Optional.
Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or damaged cranberries.
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, granulated sugar, orange juice, orange zest, and cinnamon (if using).
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens. Continue to stir occasionally.
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool completely at room temperature. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
Once cooled, transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving dish and store it in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve.
This cranberry sauce can be made up to a week in advance, making it perfect for holiday preparations.
You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar, depending on your taste preference.
For a twist, consider adding chopped nuts or a splash of your favorite liquor.
