Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf bread about 16 ounces, preferably French or challah.
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup maple syrup for serving
  • powdered sugar optional, for serving
  • fresh berries optional, for serving

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • Cut the loaf of bread into 1-inch cubes and evenly distribute them in the prepared baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, making sure all pieces are soaked. Gently press down to ensure even absorption.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best results.
  • Once ready to bake, remove the foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar and fresh berries if desired.

Notes

This casserole can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator overnight before baking.
