- 12 oz pasta (such as penne or spaghetti)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 14 oz diced tomatoes (canned)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)
Begin by cooking the pasta according to the package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Drain the pasta once cooked and set it aside.
While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent.
Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until the beef is browned and cooked through (about 6-8 minutes). Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juices), beef broth, and Italian seasoning. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Let the sauce simmer for about 10-12 minutes until slightly thickened.
Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss everything together until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
Serve the ground beef pasta hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
Feel free to customize this recipe by adding vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for extra nutrition.
You can also substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
