Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage Casings removed.
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper diced Red or green.
  • 14 oz crushed tomatoes Canned.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • grated Parmesan cheese For serving.
  • fresh basil leaves For garnish (optional).

Instructions
 

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent and the pepper is tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet, tossing to combine evenly with the sausage and sauce. Heat through for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves if desired.

Notes

For a spicier dish, use hot Italian sausage or add red pepper flakes.
Feel free to add additional vegetables like zucchini or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
