- 1 pound ground sausage Preferably breakfast sausage.
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 ½ cups bisquick baking mix
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper Optional for a spicy kick.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper if desired.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground sausage, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, bisquick baking mix, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using.
Using your hands or a fork, mix the ingredients until they are thoroughly combined, making sure not to overwork the dough.
Roll the mixture into 1-inch (2.5 cm) balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each ball.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through.
Once cooked, remove from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
You can substitute the sausage with a lower-fat option if desired.
These sausage balls can be made in advance and frozen, then baked directly from the freezer; just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
Serve with your choice of dipping sauce, like ranch dressing or marinara sauce, for added flavor.
